Abstract  Room temperature ionic liquids (RTIL) are viewed as “Green designer solvent for future”. The aim of this paper is to describe the classification, synthesis, purification, relationship between structure and physical properties. Emphasis is given for the recent advances in the physico-chemical properties study of room temperature ionic liquids.
