Synthesis of Propyl p-hydroxybenzoate with FeCl3·6H2O as a catalyst

Abstract Propyl p-hydroxybenzoate was prepared from p-hydroxybenzoic acid and propanol, in which FeCl3·6H2O was used as a catalyst, propanol as both a reactant and a solvent. The effects of reaction time, the amount of FeCl3·6H2O and reactants on the esterification yield were investigated. Under the optimum reaction conditions of n(propanol)/n(p-hydroxybenzoic acid)=3, n(FeCl3·6H2O)/n(p-hydroxybenzoic acid)=0.06, and reflux time 3h, the product with purity over 98% and yield higher 95% was obtained.

FeCl3·6H2O催化合成对羟基苯甲酸丙酯

摘要 以FeCl3·6H2O为催化剂,以既作反应物又作溶剂的丙醇和对羟基苯甲酸为原料,回流脱水直接酯化合成了对羟基苯甲酸丙酯,讨论了该催化酯化的各种影响因素。得到的反应最佳条件为:n(丙醇):n(对羟基苯甲酸)=3:1,n(催化剂):n(对羟基苯甲酸)=0.06:1回流反应3h,该条件下酯化率达到95%以上,酯含量达98%以上。
