| Hyphenated chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (chromatography-ICP-MS) integrates the high-selective separation capability of chromatography with the highly sensitive detection advantage of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). It encompasses four application configurations: high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-ICP-MS, ion chromatography (IC)-ICP-MS, capillary electrophoresis (CE)-ICP-MS, and gas chromatography (GC)-ICP-MS. Hyphenated technique exhibits prominent merits including strong anti-interference capacity, low detection limit, and simultaneous multi-target detection, enabling accurate speciation analysis and trace quantification of various elements and organometallic compounds. This review systematically summarizes the research progress of chromatography-ICP-MS in the speciation analysis of trace elements in forensic physical evidence under liquid matrix conditions, such as biological fluids, environmental samples, involved chemical reagents, food and beverages. Furthermore, it prospects the application future of this technique evolving toward miniaturization, rapidity, and simultaneous multi-target determination. |
